Shaolin-Do Students Welcome!
We were recently contacted by Shaolin-Do Martial Arts in Wadebridge who were unable to continue with their classes. We can offer their students traditional kung fu and will be welcomed at our classes. However, students are required to pay for their tuition. WE CANNOT HONOUR A CONTRACTUAL PAYMENT FOR TUITION MADE WITH SHAOLIN-DO. If any student has paid for lessons not delivered by them, we strongly urge them to take this matter up with the instructors at Shaolin-Do direct and not pursue through us.

Wishing you both a long, happy marriage.

Postgraduate Teaching Degree for Instructor Rob!
Rob Denny, instructor for our Wadebridge and Truro classes recently received his postgraduate degree to teach adult education at an awards ceremony at Truro Cathedral. He was assessed on his teaching methods specifically based on martial arts, having been marked by tutors from Truro College in the Truro and Newquay classes over the two year course. Rob produced assignments, work on martial arts history, and the psychology in teaching, as well as the usual legal requirements, despite being moderately dyslexic. This was a rare opportunity to progress the delivery of learning in martial arts, and is unlikely to be offered again in the future. His certification has been passed to BNMAA for their records and skills database. In the meantime Rob can pass this knowledge on and put it to good use within the classes to the benefit of us all. Congratulations to Rob and well done from us all!

Black Sash Gradings Autumn 2008
Congratulations to our newly certified students! Jamie Wakeham did extremely well on gaining his 1st degree in Lau Gar. He has been with us for quite a while and been a loyal supporter of the club. The Lau Gar 3rd degrees, brothers Mike and Kim Worden and Dave Sale completed their grading in demonstrating weapons, difficult empty hand sets which were tricky to master, as well as previous syllabus demanded at a fast and furious pace. All Lau Gar gradings were conducted in chinese.
The 1st degree San Shou Chinese Kickboxing grade was awarded to Kevin Platt, who demonstrated his strength and stamina in techniques for over two hours. Kevin did very well and felt he had earned his grade. Well done to all!

Congratulations to Rob and Vicky on their wedding 2 August 2008!

It was a great day and the whole event went to perfection. Thanks to Marie and Jeff for all their careful planning, not to mention the expense! Thanks also to the best man, Neil Wright, despite his nerves did a brilliant job and to his heavily pregnant wife Wendy for holding off delivery!
The couple enjoyed a fantastic honeymoon in St Lucia.

This one is for all those who wished to see Bob honouring his Scottish blood by wearing his kilt!
NEW CLASS
A new class is launched in Newquay! This class is run by Alan Hughes for anyone who wishes to practise the Korean art of Tae Kwon Do, but on a traditional basis. This is an exciting time for Alan and we offer our full support to help him to continue to train and instruct in a martial art for which he has a great passion. Alan is happy to teach brand new beginners, existing Bac Loong Gar students and anyone who wishes to cross train with us. All are welcome. Please see our Tae Kwon Do page for more information.
We have great pleasure in welcoming young black sash, Jacob, to our Falmouth school. Jacob previously trained with Darwen School of Kung Fu and has worked hard to achieve his grade. We readily accept his rank within the family of Bac Loong Gar through the BNMAA.

Weapons Class Update
Our new weapons class has become very popular with students and at their request, we have been able with guidance to formulate a new syllabus under the umbrella of Bac Loong Gar. Many students have expressed a wish to grade and thanks to the flexibility and recognition of our style within the BNMAA, we can now offer this. The weapons, commencing with the katana are taught initially as forms, and applications are shown. Japanese, Chinese and Filipino weapons will also be taught and will now be known as Bac Loong Gar Oriental Weapons (B.O.W). B.O.W. consists of 22 Japanese katana katas, a wide variation of Chinese broadsword to Tai Chi sword and spear, bo and jo staffs, trident, kwan do, three section staff, butterfly knives, double swords and the Wing Chun 6.5 pole. This training will take the student to 6th dan if desired. Due to the nature of the training, numbers are strictly limited, and the class is only open to existing members with current BNMAA licences.
New Year 2008
Due to popular demand, we have opened a new Wing Chun class in Falmouth for our students in the area. As Wing Chun is a close range style, at present we can accommodate new students/beginners, so please come along, take a look, have a go! Beginners classes commence Wednesday 9 January 2008, 7-8pm at the Falmouth Methodist Church Hall, Killigrew Street, opposite Tesco/Central Library. Concessions apply to all college/university students. Cross-trainers also welcome.
New Weapons Class
A new class in weapons training will commence on Sunday 25 November 2007 in Newquay at the usual venue, the Scout Hall, Trenarth Road. Bob will teach the katana initially and move on to other weapons, such as the butterfly knives (Lau Gar and Wing Chun), broadsword, the medieval sword, bo and jo staffs, knives, three section staff, in fact any weapon that a student wishes to learn will be considered. Numbers are limited due to the nature of the training, and usual health and safety rules apply. Sorry, the sessions are only open to existing club members.

NEW CONCESSIONARY RATES
Truro College has kindly given us permission to advertise within the college on the understanding that we offer their students concessionary rates. At White Dragon School of Kung Fu, many of us have been educated to degree standard at local colleges/combined universities and understand that students need all the help they can get with their finances. In order to promote sport (in particular martial arts) in Cornwall and offer students the help they need, we are now offering ALL current students of Cornish colleges a £1 reduction on their lessons provided they show their student union card. This reduction is equivalent to a 28.5% discount on beginners lessons every time!! So...come and try us today!!
Restormel Borough Council Club Achievement Scheme
Once again we are working with the Council and are proud to announce that we are now recognised in the Club Achievement scheme. This is similar to the NCDC Sports and Recreation club achievement scheme and covers the same criteria. White Dragon School of Kung Fu follows the policies and procedures as laid down by the scheme for child protection, equity and coaching. This is checked annually so that we can continue to give our students the best instruction, be considerate to their welfare and help promote martial arts in the community. Many thanks to all our instructors for their input.
Sunday 1 October 2006
Very well done to Catherine Docksey for achieving her back belt 1st dan in San Shou Chinese Kickboxing. Cath did brilliantly in a grading which lasted over two and a half hours with only minimal breaks and included full contact sparring, head, foot and hip throws, blocks, padwork and techniques mixed up in rapid succession. She is a credit to the club and would do well in competition with the skills and stamina she demonstrated. It's good to see a girl who can handle it!!

Saturday 2 September 2006
Carrick Sports and Recreation Hall in Truro (our Wednesday and Thursday venue) has recently celebrated the 'makeover' of a new floor in the main hall. The Hall Users Committee of which White Dragon Kung Fu are members, attended a celebration evening on 2 September 2006 which involved a big thank you to Cory Environmental, and a show by C Scape dancers who cut the ribbon! A prelude editorial to the event was published in the West Briton newspaper on 24 August and showed our beginners Wing Chun class practising on the new floor. Many thanks to all involved.

Friday 16 June Mencap Get-Together Training
Bob and Elaine attended a training programme on 16 June 2006 organised by Mencap. This is the Get Together programme which helps to teach instructors the process of inclusion and how to adapt policies, procedures and physical problems which can obstruct a child or young person with disabilities from benefiting from out of school clubs. Although we have always welcomed a prospective student with a disability, whether physical or mental, we are pleased that we can now put these measures into practice and have a better awareness.
Newquay Youth Showcase Saturday 20 May 2006
We were invited by Cllr Denis Dent to take part in the Youth Showcase held at the Newquay Sports Centre on Saturday 20 May. This was an informative display of what is on offer to the youth of Newquay. There were demonstrations and some hands on activities and many people attended. The event proved worthwhile for us and was thoroughly enjoyable for us all.
Newquay Lions Sponsored Town Walk Sunday 14 May 2006
A big thank you to all who contributed to the club for Bob's walk. With your help we raised £58 which will go towards the purchase of an Immortal Wooden Dummy. This will be available solely for the club's use.
San Shou Grading
Congratulations to our students who gained their 1st Degree black belts in our San Shou Chinese Kickboxing last weekend. Nigel Swatton achieved 3rd Dan in recognition for his input into the syllabus which helped us with the endorsements through the BNMAA. All did very well enduring a 90 minute intensive session which incorporated basics through difficult techniques, to padwork, full contact sparring and throwing. The 1st Dan holders are now displayed on the black belt register of Bac Loong Gar and their qualifications, very well deserved are recognised. Well done!

NCDC Sports & Recreation Council
We are pleased to announce that North Cornwall Sports and Recreation Council has accepted the White Dragon School of Kung Fu in their Club Achievement Scheme. This means that awareness of basic development, health and safety, child protection, equity and ethics issues within our school meet the guidelines set by NCSRC. Ultimately, it will help us to promote the Chinese Martial Arts in Cornwall and help our members to reach their goals. Thank you to everyone involved in instructing who helped to make this possible.
Sunday 2 October 2005
We are pleased to announce that Dave Sale, Kim and Mike Worden passed their 2nd Degree Lau Gar grading on Sunday 2 October. On Saturday 25 June 2005 members of the White Dragon School of Kung Fu assisted with the clearance of rubble, weeds and rubbish around the 1st Newquay Scout Hall at Trenarth Road, Mayfield, Newquay. The Scout leaders were very helpful in supplying refreshments to keep us going! There is still much work to be done and we have agreed to help the Scouts where we can with the maintenance of the premises. It is in our interests to keep the hall in a presentable state fit for training and help improve security. We can be proud that White Dragon Kung Fu has demonstrated positive input back into the local community and will do more for the future.
MANY THANKS TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS! WELL DONE EVERYONE!
