The workshop run by Sifu Bob Denny on 4 November was based on weapons, in particular the katana, which Bob learned many years back in the Midlands. The moves were shown initially as a set or form to help the students understand how and where the strikes and slicing of the blade were to be inflicted. Also shown was the blood flick of the blade and it's withdrawal and entry into the scabbard. The same striking moves were shown again in chinese broadsword, tai chi sword, medieval sword and stick form, using a variety of weapons used everyday, such as pool cues, umbrellas, walking sticks etc. Differing techniques were demonstrated against these attacks and how to evade, block and counter strike. Everyone benefited from the class and enjoyed handling the metal weapons Bob brought in. We now have demand for a weapons class!
